The 2020 Canadian Ski Championships are being hosted by the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club (SLNC) on March 25 to April 2, 2020 and the media is invited to attend a media/VIP event on March 24 to officially open the national-level event to the public. There will be introductions and time for interviews before moving to the stadium for a brief on-snow demonstration.

What: A media/VIP event with event organizers, local athletes, coaches and dignitaries.

When: Tuesday, March 24 at 2:00 p.m.       

Where: Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre, 250 Sovereign Lake Rd.         

Who: There will be interview opportunities with the following people:

  • Victor Cumming, Mayor (City of Vernon) – Tentative
  • Pat Pearce, Organizing Committee Chair (2020 Canadian Ski Championships)
  • Troy Hudson, General Manager (Sovereign Lake)
  • Eric de Nys, Head Coach (Sovereign Lake)
  • Local athletes TBA
  • Event sponsors

Why: This is the largest and highest-caliber annual cross-country skiing event in Canada. There will be over 650 athletes plus support staff in attendance. The event is expected to generate an estimated 2.3M impact for Greater Vernon. This event has not been held in Vernon since 1995.
